Newquay has that laidback feel that goes hand in hand with being England’s undisputed surfing capital. The centre of the action is Fistral Beach whose swells and Cribbar Reef produce some of the largest breakers in the British Isles. The long, sandy beach is backed by tall dunes which give way to Newquay Golf Club.
Great Western Beach lies below sheer cliffs one street from the train station, while Towan Beach by the picturesque harbour is the closest to the town centre. Tolcarne Beach is sheltered in its own bay, as is the wide stretch of sand at Porth Beach whose northern coastline is 2 rocky headlands joined by a narrow footbridge over the sea.
Each beach is overlooked by luxury hotels with spas, cheap hostels and self-catering apartments on Booking.com. All are surrounded by Newquay’s restaurants, bars and clubs which offer the best nightlife this side of Bristol.
More leisurely pursuits include Trerice manor house in the countryside near the Lappa Valley Steam Railway. Buccaneer Bay and the Blue Reef Aquarium are popular with families, as are Waterworld and Newquay Zoo within Trenance Gardens.
Another favoured spot for a walk are the salt marshes by the River Gannel which is a prominent sight as you descend into Newquay Cornwall Airport.

Newquay for us is a good 5 hour drive away but every year we always come back for a week. We love how dog friendly the area is. The bars and restaurants are amazing around here and I’ve genuinely never been dissatisfied. The staff in all the hotels and bars are super helpful and any special requests you have are always met. If I had the chance I would move to Newquay to live as it’s that nice of a place and the people around here are so friendly. Cove 24, Fort Inn, Secret Garden, 12 Beach Rd and The Boathouse are all 10/10 places to eat. We will forever continue to come back to this little gem of a town.

The best thing about Newquay for me is the magnificent coastline of dramatic cliffs, rock pinnacles and sandy beaches - unsurpassed for a seaside town I have been to in my 75 years. For drivers the town is badly signposted but this is typical throughout Cornwall. I was hoping for more live music events but it seems the last week in April is not the time for these. I thought the Irish Bar next to the Victoria Hotel, frankly, grim. Not much else to say that makes this town much different from countless others in the UK.

If you go for service or a swim on a hot day, probably you will enjoy yourself. If you are on a city trip, you won't be pleased with Newquay and run away to atmospheric St. Ives. We didn't feel like it was a happy place, more of a Benidorm for flat beach entertainment. It is hard to find a nice place for a tea and scones. It is a bit derelict and has the feel of a lack of care. But that is common at many seaside resorts in the UK. A pretty view from the Aldi parking and further the only kind of highlight is the harbour. But you've seen that in a few minutes.
We were given a room upgrade by the super-friendly owner. We had already read about how spotless the hotel is, but its no exageration. We had a lovely and vey spacious room, overlooking a church, with views over the sea and the town. There are so many good things to say about the place; there was free fruit and (very reasonably-priced - only 50p) water bottles available on the way out. There is an amazing games room and a bar if it rains. Location is a very short walk down to the town centre. I can't recommend this hotel enough.
Just spent 4 nights here ,Keith and Roz are excellent hosts because we felt very welcome as soon as we arrived to this beautiful hotel. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and the breakfast was gorgeous. The location of this hotel is exactly in the centre of everything . Being able to park on the premises was a big bonus. We can definately recommend this hotel to couples and families and know you will love it staying here. We will be returning to this hotel the next time we visit Newquay.
You can’t beat the location of this property! Right next to Fistral beach and just a couple of minutes walk from Newquay town centre. There was also a reasonably priced long stay carpark with an electric charger just across the road which worked perfectly for us. The breakfast was nice with a good selection and beautiful view. Very nice bar area. The downstairs area of the hotel is modern and fitted out really nicely.
Exellent place to stay. Great location only 1min walk to centre and 5min to beach.
Very clean and comfortable modern room nicely decorated.
We was very happy to stay there.
Simon and Nell were lovely and so helpful all the time.
The breackfest was exellent.
I highly recommend this lovely hotel for stay in Newquay.
We will be comming back there 🙂🙂.
Location, location, location! Breathtaking views and close proximity to Newquay centre. Upgrades have and continue to be made and those complete to date and excellent. Bus stop serving Newquay Airport and Padstow literally opposite hotel! Staff were very courteous and friendly especially Julie who certainly enhanced our stay!
The staff were so kind and nice.Very well run and very dog friendly inside and outside the hotel, hotel situated easy walking distance to everything.Food is delicious. Breakfast with a view and doggy treats everywhere. It was worth every penny, room with the balcony sea view was exactly that , clean and welcoming.
I stayed in Newquay for 4 nights as solo traveller. The hotels has been recently renovated, so rooms have very nice furniture, are clean and have everything needed during the stay. It is located in a very nice area, with easy access to the beach and few minutes walk from the city centre. Highly recommended!
View from the room was great, more than expected. The room was a good size and good to have a private bathroom also. Great location in the centre of Newquay and entertainment facilities were beyond expectation as well. If you want a cheap and reasonable place to stay, this is a good place to crash.
Lisa and her husband are simply wonderful and it's a real pleasure to stay there.
The courteous and kind nature of the two and also the courteous nature of the staff permeates the hotel.
The breakfast is wonderful and really tasty.
All beaches are easy to reach.
Thanks so much.
Everything was amazing. Great view, perfect location, very kind owners, delicious breakfast, and the rooms were immaculately clean. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Newquay. I have stayed in many hotels in Cornwall, but this has definitely been the Best!
Staff were super friendly throughout, the hotel was situated in a nice location away from the main hustle and bustle of the city centre.
The main attractions were 5 minutes or less in a taxi or 20 minutes walk. Really good value and would definitely recommend
The location is superb. Views towards Newquay towards the west side and Bedruthan steps to the east. Betruthan Steps is a popular destination.
Walking routes just on the hotel's dooorstep (South West Coastal Path). Buses available to Newquay and Padstow.
The location is absolutely excellent! The balcony looks out onto the sand and water and was absolutely lovely. The hotel lent our family wetsuits and boogy boards and we had a wonderful weekend celebrating my husband's and son's birthdays.
The location was great, between Newquay and Watergate Bay, very close to Porth Beach. Our 2 year old loved the kids entertainment in the evening, the girl doing it was great with the kids. Caravan was pretty spacious, shower nice and hot.
Hotel Bristol is in a central beach-front location in Newquay. The reception staff were courteous and efficient. Parking spaces were plentiful to the rear of the hotel. The room was of a good size.
Central location to visit Cornwall. Nicely situated in Newquay close to the beach. Thoughtful hosts and very easy to communicate with. Property had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.
Fantastic hotel, amazing staff - Emma was extremely helpful, the best location you can imagine. It was worth driving 7h. Well done all the staff and thank you for making our stay so special x
