An Ancient University Town with Fascinating Culture
In the south-west corner of Castile and Leon, the Spanish city of Salamanca is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Old City is one of the most beautiful Renaissance cities in Europe.
Situated next to the border with Portugal, Salamanca has unique architecture including Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque monuments. The Old Cathedral dates from the 12th-13th centuries and joined together with the 16th-century New Cathedral.
One of the most charming squares in Spain, Plaza Mayor is the heart of Salamanca and an excellent example of Baroque architecture. Enjoy a walk around the exterior terraces, savour an ice cream or relax in one of the picturesque restaurants.
Founded by King Alfonso IX in 1218, the University of Salamanca has more than 3,500 international students and teachers. Known for its Spanish courses for non-native speakers, the university houses a huge library with more than 150,000 invaluable volumes.

I compare Salamanca to Oxford steeped in history very afluent beatiful. The culture is centered around the student population with dozens of bars and restaurants. ( not rowdy). Architecture is magnificent so much to see 1 day is not enough.
It is more expensive than anywhere else I have visited in Spain.

Salamanca is a beautiful city with lots of fabulous buildings all within easy walking distance. It also has good restaurants (definitely try Taberna de Libreros) It can be busy when the day trippers arrive but is quieter in the evenings.

Great architecture and friendly atmosphere.
Great architecture and friendly atmosphere. Plenty of bars and restaurants.
It would have been very helpful if menus could have been in English for us as many times we didn’t buy because we didn’t know what we were ordering and the translate app wasn’t good enough at times. Made food ordering laborious and way to difficult at times.

Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit.
Salamanca is a lovely city and definitely worth a visit. We stayed 3 night and were able to see everything we wanted without rushing.
It is a walkable city. We came by train and left by bus. We used the local bus only once, and that was to get to our apartment.
We were there during Easter weekend, so reservations are important. Great restaurants and food.
Excellent location in Salamanca. Very centrally located and 10 min walk away from all of the major tourist sites and shopping areas. The staff is wonderful and makes you feel welcomed. They have a nice breakfast buffet. Also, there is a public parking garage right in front of the hotel which makes it very convenient as the hotel is in a pedestrian area of the city. Accommodations are simple but very clean. The wifi works well throughout the hotel. Definitely a value for the price.
Convenient location about ten minutes by foot from Plaza Mayor. Thoughtful decor combining historic and modern elements. All contemporary conveniences, such as beautiful bathroom, large TV, safe and coffee maker included. Outstanding, professional, English-speaking staff. Convenient parking and if you are nervous about squeezing into narrow spaces, staff will be happy to do it for you. This hotel is top notch all around and one of the best ones we used in Spain.
In fact it's a perfect hotel.
The staff is very friendly, helpful. We enjoyed the bed and the bathroom.
The breakfast is rich.
To find the underground parking of the hotel looks complicate in front of the computer, but much easier in reality, than we expected based on the description of former guests. Don't be afraid, GPS do help!
The location of the hotel is breathtaking. You step into wonderland from the hotel, directly!
If arriving by car much easier to reach (from A62/A66) than other hotels located in the center of Salamanca thus avoiding its traffic. Good breakfast, wide selection of items. Very helpful front desk. Convenient underground parking. We arrived early and could park and go off to see the city's attractions and move into our room later. The cathedrals and other sights are a 20 minute walk using the Roman Bridge near the hotel.
They took a booking on a night where the city of Salamanca knew the students had a party. We were unable to access the hotel as there was thousands of people on the streets. Local people were telling us to be careful it was completely unsafe. I never received an apology and had paid in full. We had to drive 2 minutes out of the city and stayed in a lovely safe hotel that also said soho should not have taken the booking.
The hotel was just outside the old town. Short walk across the pedestrian bridge, Salamanca as a whole was a big surprise. What a fun area with lots to explore and see and do, I wish I had planned for more time. Very young people and activity. Enormous plaza with so many dinning choices. It was BEAUTIFUL. Going out on the roof of the cathedral was a bonus tour the is a must experience (if you don't mind heights.
My husband and I loved our stay at Mirador del Poeta. The location is priceless. The apartment was amazing, and the amenities were great too. The aparthotel is new, and everything is greatly taken care of. The location at the Plaza Mayor is unbeatable, being within walking distance of everything you might want to explore in Salamanca.
Great no fuss hotel. Cheap, good beds, nice staff!! If you come by car just enter the underground parking on the side, by ringing the bell, the reception will let you in (then go to -2 or -3, the parking spaces are not big but not smaller than the average in Spain!!). It costs €9,90 a day and we thought it was very convenient.
we love this hotel, second time staying and we are never disappointed. the rooms are big, the hotel is quiet, the gym is quite good, staff is lovely, breakfast is in a relaxing room, not a lot of options but everything is very tasty
salamanca main plaza is just outside the door and the hotel is very modern
Location, breakfast, comfort, staff, cleanliness. Ms Carmen was very kind and helpful. Few steps away from the Plaza Mayor. Breakfast was served in the room but was pretty good. Health precautious observed better than in other hotels I visited in Spain during this period.
Hotel Rector is honestly the best hotel I have ever been to and I have spent many nights in high-class hotels. The combination of the service, the friendly personnel and the very nice ambience makes this a place I will certainly come back to when traveling through Spain.
Fantastic hotel with the best outdoor pool in Salamanca complete with views of the cathedral. We had one of the junior suites which was spacious and comfortable. The staff were lovely and breakfast excellent. Would definitely go back the next time we stay in Salamanca.
a simple comfortable hotel. We had the most amazing view over Salamanca- magical at night. The staff were very friendly and wanted to make sure we saw everything! the breakfast was fairly basic, but plentiful and good.
the hotel was well situated for the sights.
We have used this hotel many times before travelling from north to south Spain, and back. It is very comfortable and clean. The staff are very friendly. It is only a ten minute stroll to Plaza Mayor. Breakfast offers plenty of variety. The room rates are very good.
Everything at this hotel is perfect

The secure indoor parking
The room

All superb
I would go as far to say one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in !!! Keep up those amazing standards hotel rector
You guys are amazing
We stayed one night on route from the south of Spain. The hotel was easy to find with secure parking for our motorbike. The staff were very friendly and the room comfortable. There was an excellent 21 euro fixed menu evening meal at the restaurant.
Central, lots of free street parking at weekend (if you are reasonably early). Comfortable bed, everything works, has a fridge (unusual in Spain). Clean. Heat and a/c good. Wifi good but annoying sign in. Nice staff.
Located as close as possible to the center of town without making the entry cumbersome. About ten minute walk to Plaza Major and close to all the highlights of Salamanca . Large comfortable rooms with friendly staff.
Good Breakfast options (Self-service and price not included)
Very quiet place
Parking available at no additional cost
Very close to the historical center of Salamanca
