Hofje van Sint Jan, hotel in Gouda

Housed in a historic building, the recently renovated Hofje van Sint Jan provides accommodation with a garden and free WiFi.

Delightful location right in the center of Gouda. And such a charming house! One thing to note: it's an old Dutch house, so access to the upper floors is by steep spiral stairs. This is not a complaint, just be aware that you'll have some climbing.

This town has beautiful architecture, churches, street art, and historical sights. There also many unique shops and wide variety of restaurants. Try sampling the various cheeses, you will probably buy more than you can carry. There are many other sights of interest nearby, Gouda would make a nice base for the region.

We didn’t have much time to explore as we came for a friend’s birthday party but we had a couple of walks in the old town, really nice. We loved the architecture of the houses by the canals. Cheese is to die for!

Gouda is a fascinating old dutch town.

Gouda is a fascinating old dutch town. We took our time going through the 30 stations of the self-guided historic tour and thoroughly enjoyed learning about this small yet once very important merchant/trade town. The annual Beach Festival was going on during our visit and we got to watch some beach volleyball games on the market square (on sand that was brought in). Disappointingly, the Verzetsmuseum was closed (apparently being moved and re-conceptualized) but we could still soak up quite a lot of history--while tasting some great cheese, too! We missed the weekly cheese market, though. If you want to experience that, be sure to visit on a Thursday.

What a unique experience! We loved the little tower. It is definitely not for someone with mobility issues, and perhaps not for several evenings, but we enjoyed it very much for one night. The kitchenette and bathroom are well fitted and on the ground floor, a couch on the second floor and then many many steps up, the lovely bed. It has settings that can make you sit up or lift the feet. Windows on all sides. Thanks very much also for the wine and snacks, Mike. Gouda is a beautiful town and the little tower is well situated.

We arrived early and Linda met us to store our luggage so we could explore Gouda. She was very kind and gave us a pamphlet of attractions and a map. She helped us find our key which was actually just hanging on the wall, we didn’t see it. The house was very spacious and clean and in an excellent locations. Would highly recommend!

Karine is a wonderful host and the property was absolutely charming. We stayed for 2 nights and it was the perfect place to stay. It is so close to the main town square - a five minute walk. Gouda itself is a charming town and the people were very friendly. I would thoroughly recommend this property to anyone visiting Gouda.

The room was great: cozy and good looking. Windows offered river view and, despite looking out on the street, it was very quiet. The furniture was very comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful, providing space to store our luggage for few hours, despite the fact the hotel itself has no locker room

Lovely quiet neighbourhood, half hour walk/10 minute bus ride from Gouda centre. I loved the bathroom especially the walk in shower. Host was flexible, provided information for taxi service which was a great support. Breakfast was great and served by owner on agreed time, this was really nice.

This hotel exceeded all expectations. It was ideally located and a fabulous find in this wonderful city. Quirky, beautifully decorated with elegant rooms and stunning restaurants. I would like to revisit in summer when I'm sure the courtyard garden will come to life.

We liked the historic building that had be very sensitively repurposed into a lovely hotel, especially the exposed wooden beams that had been kept in our top-floor room. The front desk staff were very kind and helpful, both for checking in and out.

Breakfast was OK and the brightest point were the staff members and their ability to speak English. Refreshing after having visited France. The on-site parking was very convenient and the location to various highway entrances was also convenient.
