Located in Puerto Viejo, 200 metres from Negra Beach, Pagalù Hostel provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a terrace. I was extremely happy with this hostal. The owners were amazing and went out of their way to help and in a genuin way. The help I got with staying an additional night and tips on tours, bike rental and getting to the Tortuguero following my stay was amazing! I really recommend this hostal if what you want is a clean, comfortable, calm but sociable atmosphere in the center of Puerto Viejo, 5min walking from bus stop and with a supermarket just next door.

Perfectly located within the village. Clean room and facilities. Many hammocks around to unwind in. The locals are super friendly. Vicky next door is a real gem! We can’t wait to go back

El Kalunai Hostel es troba a Puerto Viejo, a 4,2 km del Centre de Rescat de Jaguars i a 2,6 km de Cocles. Ofereix una zona de barbacoa, WiFi gratuïta, jardí i saló compartit. I decided to stay here for 6 days and I’m happy I did. The staff is amazing. So so friendly. They will make you feel very much at home. To me Kalunai has the perfect balance between being fun but not being too much fun ;). I loved the kitchen area where everybody comes together. I cooked at the hostel every night, because I liked the vibe there so much. The location is great. In a quiet area but still close to the center and beach. Very convenient that it’s possible to rent bikes at the hostel. YOU GET CLEAN TOWELS :). It’s very clean in general. Oh and make sure you join in on one of the familie nights for amazing home cooked meals!

Arcari Garden Hostel is located just 400 metres from Tortuguero National Park, just a few steps from the sea shores and features free WiFi access is available in all areas. The staff was very nice and helpful. There is plenty of space with sofas and hammocks if you want to chill for a day. The rooms are good with comfortable beds. We booked all tours at the hostel and not in advance. It worked well and the guide was 10/10. They also arranged transfers.

Set in Puerto Viejo, 500 metres from Negra Beach, El Clan Hostel offers accommodation with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a garden and a bar. Rihanny at the front desk is a total star. Calm, pleasant, warm and helpful she made our stay exceptional. The hostel was a joy, wonderful grounds with a resident sloth (Raoul), a number of agouti and most wonderful...the red straberry dart frogs. There are flowers at every corner and the trees and lush vegetation add ambiance and privacy. They have a good system for food storage in the shared kitchen and a nice little pool area.

El Tasty Dayz Hostel està situat a Puerto Viejo, a 100 m de la platja de Cocles, i disposa de restaurant, aparcament privat gratuït, bar i saló compartit. The service was amazing. Helping with transition between different rooms and advising on crossing the border to Panama. On Tuesdays good live music.

Set in Tortuguero and with Tortuguero Beach reachable within a few steps, Chinitas Eco Lodge offers a tour desk, non-smoking rooms, a garden, free WiFi and a terrace. Guests can enjoy garden views. Its more remote compared to tortuguero itself but amazing to stay for 2 days. It is not as crowded as Tortuguero is. And Owen (my guide for the day) was a great guide with really good knowledge and a high interest in animal life and nature
