In our experience, there's not a lot to do in Marathon.
In our experience, there's not a lot to do in Marathon. There's some snorkel, SCUBA, and fishing charters, but that's about it. Sombrero Beach looks great for younger families. There's more recreational activities out of Key Largo and Key West, but Marathon is central for access to both, plus Islamorada and Big Pine. There's plenty of areas to eat, but we found that buying ahi tuna steaks at $10/lb was a steal at the grocery store. As with all driving in the Keys, respect the speed as there are plenty of deputies and troopers.

Marathon is a great stop before going to key west or if you want to fish or do activities. KW isn't a great destination for that. Marathon is much quieter but also closes early.
I'd much rather stay in Marathon for a longer part and do an overnight in KW.

Went to Bahia Honda State Park - beaches were ok.
Went to Bahia Honda State Park - beaches were ok. They offer paddle boarding and kayak rental there. went on several trails, which were nice. Went on the old 7 mile bridge (cloudy day), but didn't get to see sunrise. Drove out to see mini deers and got to see a glimpse of one (it was not near sunset or sunrise, which is the time they recommend you go to see them).

We visited the Sea Turtle Recuse Hospital and it was amazing. They are doing such a great job .
We ate at a lot of restaurants that was on our List and a few from recommendations from Jason ( Front desk Clerk-awesome guy).
Had breakfast at the Conch House Cafe -twice and Dinner at Castaways twice.
Bahia Honda State Park beach was the BEST Beach we visited in Marathon.
Hotel location is perfect in Marathon, in the middle of everything and just a 5 min drive to Sombrero Beach. Check-in was efficient and fast, rooms were in pristine conditions, beds extremely comfortable, very nice decorated and a very nice view from our room in the 4th floor. Pool area and bar are very good and helped us to relax and enjoy few drinks. Breakfast was outstanding in our last day, items are simple but portions were generous, service was phenomenal and we felt very welcomed and everything was very tasty.
Perfect for a family getaway while in the Keys during low season (we can imagine how crowded this must get), conveniently located mid-way if you consider taking a break before Key West or going back to Miami- the unit that we were staying at was fully renovated and facing the water, away from the main resort building- which allowed us to see beautiful sunsets in a perfectly quiet environment as well as conveniently located walking distance from one of the restaurant and the kids pool.
The general atmosphere in this hotel is great, and so is the staff (shout out to Alex!).
Really nice pool area (for adults and also for kids) and bar. Live music in the evening was very enjoyable. You can rent canoes on site for a realistic rate.
Good food at the Blu bistro. Close to big supermarkets where you can buy all kinds of prepared meals.
In general I like the location of Marathon compared to other islands on the Keys.
Big rooms, 2 tvs, balcony, nice shower.
The bed, linen & pillows are all good quality and comfortable.
The pool is amazing, warm, large, easy access in and out.
We had a view of the marina which was very nice, balcony chairs are comfortable.
Nice to walk down to the 'Pointe' to sit and watch the sunset, a couple of hammocks to relax in also.
All but 1 staff I met were very pleasant.
The Manager is fairly new to the hotel but came across as caring and wanting to do his best.
The location was great. Even though it was the busy season in the keys, Marathon is a little less busy and commercial. The Treehouse is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, but you can walk to the Gulf (not a beach, but a pier you can sit on) to watch the sunset without worrying about traffic or crowds. The house is well equipped and comfortable.
One of the few places with real beach feeling (sand beach) on the middle keys, that served as a perfect retreat for our family at the end of a long Florida trip. We enjoyed the Key-West-like beach house with nice seaside views.
The butterfly restaurant was a real gem - book at least one time during your stay a dinner table.
I've been coming to the Florida Keys for the past 15 years. Every time I come, I stay at Blackfin Resort. The staff are "ALWAYS" pleasant, and the Hotel is clean and affordable. I "LOVE" the environment and staying at Blackfin Resort. Dining, Shopping and Fishing are all in close proximity, and I Always feel "Stess-Free!!!
The boutique size hotel was staffed by the friendliest and most helpful people, especially Morgan, the concierge. The property was large enough that you never felt like you were crowded by others. The hotel is located so that you can easily enjoy the Keys to the east and west.
Great place to stay if you intend to go to Bahia Honda State Park. It is about an hour away from Key West. The hotel is right by the side of the road but we did not hear any noise. The free kayaks was definitely a bonus.
The resort has its own marina, location is in the centre of Marathon. The room we stayed in was refurbished and clean with a kitchenette. Price is relatively affordable compared to other accommodations in the Keys.
We loved this hotel, right on the water which looked good from our room each Morning. The pool area was good and it’s close to everything we wanted. The price was good and there was nothing to complain about.
the resort is on the beach. no swimming but kayaking snd paddling available. I liked the simple Devore and it was clean and nice. nothing fancy but super friendly ! parking available right by the room.
Sea Dell is great! Staying in a classic Keys hotel is always fun and we really loved the location, the pool, the friendly staff, and our small but efficient room. Would definitely book again!
Location was wonderful! Quiet and perfect for sunset viewing. The room was clean and comfortable. Perfect for the value especially compared to other Keys hotels.
