It doesn’t end there though. Clubbing in Rio is fantastic and ranges from techno to traditional bossa nova. Bohemian beats can be found in Santa Teresa and Lapa, whose trams pass over a double-arched viaduct.

Rio is a world-class city in a spectacular location that is worth visiting any time. The beaches are world-famous, but the national parks, especially the botanical garden, as also worth visiting. I have been visiting Rio since the mid-1990's and have never had a negative experience. For details, I can suggest you look at the very many videos and reviews already available on line.

Everyone tell you be careful of pick pocket in Rio.
Everyone tell you be careful of pick pocket in Rio. That is true but also the town near Copacabana is so lively. Bakery like in Europe, hair salon do massage and nail with reasonable price. Street food, street fashion are all affordable. But you have a select a safe hotel.

The people we did interact with were very friendly but I've been told only about 2% of Brazilians speak English which seems out of character for a tourist destination. It did seem true, however, and I used iTranslate/Google translate to get by. Rio was the final port on a cruise so we did run into people we knew as we went around. My brother had been to a wedding here a year before so we also asked his opinion, he thought 2 days would be fine. Maybe another day though I was ready to go home by the time I left. I noticed on the tour aggregators (Expedia/Viator) there isn't much for English speakers beyond Christ Redeemer, SugarLoaf, hang gliding and favela tours. No general city overview tours, for example. We had been to beaches along the coast so didn't need that but I was told Ipanema Beach was better than Copa, the nightlife was more geared to tourists and a cleaner beach. I stayed in Santa Teresa but couldn't really get into the vibe not speaking the language. I found amazing things to do - loved MAR (museum) of Rio and the church at the monastery of Sao Bento. My sister and I did do a private city tour which included going to Christ Redeemer and anything else we wanted to do. We were picked up at the pier and dropped at our hotel. We had a driver and guide so luggage was safe and communication was simple. I didn't bring enough outlet adaptors for the many types of electrical sockets Brazil seems to have, fyi.

Rio de Janeiro is a wonderful city to visit .
Rio de Janeiro is a wonderful city to visit . Sugar Loaf mountain cable car gives incredible views of the city and Christ the Redeemer was wonderful and there are many other places to visit close by. The national park was a morning trip that is highly recommended.
We ate in local resturants both on the beach and one block back from the beach so many to choose from and all within easy walking distance. Prices reasonable - meal for 2 including wine varied between £25 -£40
- Large, comfy bed
- Lovely view from rooftop of the endless beach. Great to swim in the rooftop pool
- Good location 2 mins walk away from the beach and under 10 mins walk from a number of good and lively restaurants. (Obviously is in Barra da Tijuca so far away from major tourist hotspots like Ipanema, Copacabana, Santa Teresa, Centro, Lapa)
- Friendly and helpful reception staff who spoke fluent English
- 17 floors but lots of modern lifts meant you weren't waiting ages
- V clean
- Midday checkout always a bonus!
Firstly, the staff was just amazing. They were professional, helpful, and friendly. I was pleased with my room. It was spacey and the bed was huge. Large bathroom. Everything was absolutely clean. There is a desk, an extra table and another table on the balcony. There is a small fridge in the room as well. Really appreciated the blackout curtains. The location of the hotel is unbeatable, pretty much everything is walking distance. It is at the crossroads of Copacabana and Ipanema. I would definitely stay again.
The staffs are very friendly, informative and accommodating. I think the ocean view room, probably has one of the best view of Copacabana and Sugar loft. The location is great, you are in Copacabana, with hotel’s service tent on the beach and Ipanema is only 10-15 minutes easy walk from the hotel. The hotel is very clean with modern airy atmosphere. There are a gym, a sun deck, a pool, a sauna. The Emilia restaurant is great both service and food. Also many restaurants near by.
Great location and breakfast. Hotel staff were excellent. Takes a little time to get to heart of the city, but Uber is inexpensive and easy, taxis across the street. Property faces the beach, so continuous entertainment walking along Copacabana. Housekeeping service was outstanding. Room very comfortable…great beds. Rooftop pool and bar were a big hit with us. Will book this property again on our next trip.
Prime location, walking distance to beach and great food options to eat. Hotel stored our luggage while we took a tour on our last day since our flight was so late. I like the room space, although a bit outdated but considering the price of the room, can't really complain. Ipanema beach is the closest; however Copacabana Beach is about a 5mins walk away and has more to offer in terms of food and drink.
Modern hotel with a restaurant and bar, as well as a pool. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Wi-fi was fast and reliable and AC worked well. Staff was also friendly which is always a plus. The hotel is in Barra Tijuca so away from the centre and touristic hot spots of Ipanema and Copacabana. So probably best suited for people looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle.
The Hotel is located right opposite the copacabana beach and from our balcony we were able to see both the beach as well as Christ the Redeemer which I think was awesome. The breakfast was scrumptious and fulfilling with assorted fruits and pastries. The service of the staff especially at the the breakfast table was exceptional! Overall it was a great experience at PortoBay.
I loved the location, the style of the hotel (instagram-worthy!) and the amazingly comfortable bed. We were also able to take bikes for free (incl. free waters from the hotel) and cycle along Leblon, Ipanema and Copacabana beach - a once in a lifetime experience. The hotel restaurant is also very nice, great cocktails - and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was great as I found fresh fruit, continental, and traditional English breakfast as a superb selection available both mornings. I appreciated the kind personnel at the reception who was always willing to help when needed. Location of the hotel is also very central which makes it easy to access Copacabana , Ipanema beaches...
I was in a corner junior suite. I had a stunning view of Sugarloaf and Copacabana Beach. Location on the beach was excellent. I loved this room and highly recommend the corner junior suite. I had breakfast and dinner in the hotel and both were very good.
Pestana Rio is an amazing place to stay. Our room with a partial view os the see gave us the opportunity to see the sunrises as well take good pictures. I recommend this hotel. Copacabana is always Copacabana. Next year we will be back to the same hotel.
It's right next to Copacabana Beach. The breakfast provided us with a great variety of choices and selections. There are facilities for those who would like to stay in the hotel in a rainy day. The staff is efficient and quick to respond.
Everything in the hotel was according to expectations. The hotel staff was very friendly and always took care of our needs. The location is perfect, in front of Copacabana Beach and close to Ipanema, Leblon, restaurants and bars.
It is a small hotel in the proximity of Ipanema Beaches and also close to Copacabana. The hotel has modern rooms. Breakfast is adequate and staff in the breakfast room very nice. Also receptionists very helpful.
The hotel is at a perfect location at walking distance from both Copacabana beach and ipanema beach and loads of restaurants nearby. Super friendly staff and clean and spacious room. Breakfast was fine.
It is one of the best locations in Rio in my opinion, walking distance to a lot of restaurants, bars, Copacabana and Ipanema beach. Hotel is comfortable and very convenient.
Very good hotel, employees and breakfast for the price. The location is less than 5 minutes walk from Copacabana beach and 10-15min from Ipanema beach.
