I booked my staying on the go, just at the reception closing hours and arrived one hour later. The hosts still made it all to go effortless for me. Thank you!

‘The City of Three Rivers’
Known as the City of Three Rivers, Passau is a beautiful German town in Lower Bavaria crossed by the Danube, Ilz and Inn rivers. Situated near the Austrian border, this university city is home to the biggest cathedral organ in the world with 17,774 pipes and 233 registers.
Built in 1688 by the Italian architect Carlo Lurago, the Baroque St. Stephen's Cathedral has frescoes and paintings by JM Rottmayr. Featuring classic European architecture, the historic Old Town of Passau has small cobbled alleys with picturesque Bavarian cafes and restaurants, as well as a Neo-Gothic tower. You can enjoy a cruise on the Danube River or wonder around the medieval houses that are modified into galleries.
Set between the Danube and Ilz, the 13th-century Castle of Passau was the bishops’ residence for several centuries. Travellers can visit the fortress of Oberhaus and discover interesting museums with potteries, sculptures and paintings.
The Austrian city of Salzburg is about 110 km and Linz Airport is 64.5 km away. Booking.com offers a variety of hotels and guest houses in Passau and the nearby cities of Salzweg, Thyrnau and Kellberg. The Central Railway Station of Passau has trains to Vienna, Budapest, Amsterdam and London.

Passau is a beautiful town where the Donau River joins the other two rivers. It is also the starting point for many Donay cruises. Walking around the town, visiting the Castle, or just strolling around the river walks was an amazingly relaxing experience. We arrived and departed by train, and the station is 10 minutes walking from the city center. It was the place where our river cruise started and ended, and we chose to prolong our stay in town for two nights. We recommend dining early since most of the restaurants will close. For lunch everything is open, but finding a restaurant for dinner might be a struggle. I recommend the restaurant at StadHotel Passau, it is open from breakfast to dinner and they serve typical Bavarian food.

Amazing. Great. Unbelievable. Great evening/night life.
Amazing. Great. Unbelievable. Great evening/night life. Many restaurants outside in beautiful streets. Some streets are so tiny that it is scary to walk them but I loved it. The meeting of the rivers is beautiful. Also I recommend taking a boat trip to
Linz(5hrs).

Passau has an enviable location at the confluence of three rivers. Most of the public architecture is baroque or rococo. The old town has a good vibe, helped by the presence of tourists and students from the local university. It’s a great place to stroll, with several excursion possibilities.

I have always wanted to see Passau.
I have always wanted to see Passau. We stayed there for three days. I woudl reccomend to climb up Mariahilf for a beautiful view of the old town. It is a perfect place for taking photoes. We had excellent white sausages inthe pub just across the street. Thank to the location of Helen's flat, we had all the main sights within 30 minutes, apart from West Oberhaus and the Mariahilf, of course.
My son and I walked from Passau railway station to Hotel Herdegen which was a very straightforward walk. We had received excellent check-in instructions so checking-in was not an issue for us.
The location is very good as a base to explore Passau and located near to the railway station.
The room itself was fine for us - we were only here for 1 night. It was comfortable enough and the bed linen, towels, etc were clean.
The checkout was 11:00 which was great for us. That was a plus!
Great location, short walk from train station and all the sights. Room was smaller but bed was comfortable and there was a good shower. Also had a good breakfast with meat, cheese, hard rolls, granola plus they cooked eggs to order.. Layout of hotel was a little weird as you had to walk through restaurant to get from entry to the elevator for the rooms but it worked fine. There was also an outdoor patio with good views of river and fortress on the hill. I would stay there again.
We were positively surprised by how nice this hotel was given the reasonable price. We particularly liked the breakfast (excellent!) and the hotel personnel (especially Julia) were very friendly and professional. Having booked at the last minute, we had a room in a noisier location on the ground floor, but the hotel provided us with ear plugs which was the perfect solution. Very comfortable beds. The hotel is a comfortable and scenic 5-10 minute walk to Passau old town.
The location couldn't have been better. Das Hornsteiner was located within walking distance of the train station and nestled among the heart of Passau! We also loved the convenience of the cafe right upstairs. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The sauna was the perfect little extra. We definitely recommend staying at Das Hornsteiner if you find yourself in Passau and in need of lodging.
Relatively close to highway. 24-hour reception. We were able to check out at 5am in order to get an early start driving. The hotel was a good stopover for us on a long drive. Although dated, the rooms were clean. Large grocery store (and some other shops) within walking distance. I liked the cost effectiveness of being able to get two twin rooms instead of having to get two double rooms.
This is a wonderful hotel in a beutiful location!
Very, very kind and helpful staff, fully equipped, beautiful and very clean rooms, the breakfast is rich and varied, the additional free services (e.g. fitness) is perfect, and do not forget, this hotel has a privat parking garage in the heart of Passau, which is rare in the city center.
I heartily recommend it to everyone!
The location is great, really easy to find , close to supermarkets and places to eat.
We were really tired from our onwardjourney , so when we arrived in Passau earlier than expected we were pleasantly surprised that the hotel had a room ready for us. Very grateful for accepting us earlier.
Great hotel in a quite part of town. An easy walk to the river or to any location in Passau. The room was clean, the comp breakfast was great and we had a nice balcony. A grocery store and pharmacy is across the street. A laundromat is a few block away.
Vegan, lactose free and gluten free options available for breakfast.
Bike shed in the garage for our bikes
Easy check in and check out
Close to Passau city centre
Nice groovy jazz music in the reception area
Great location in the historic centre of Passau. Very friendly receptionist. Room small but adequate for one night. Excellent breakfast on the top floor of the hotel with a lovely view over the city.
with the (public) parking garage right under the hotel is the location perfect for a stay. in the middle of the centre with a lot of place to eat. the rooms are very spacious and clean. in short
The hotel is in lovely location overlooking the city of Passau.
Great location, comfy rooms with all the facilities.
The breakfast was outstanding as well; definitely be back.
One of the things we appreciated was having the candles (battery operated) lit up throughout the hotel when we arrived home that night. It was a nice addition.
I liked the location, the cleaning staff (Anna and Maria) were very helpful, the hotel accommodated my bicycle, and the rooms are very clean and comfortable
