Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

IndiaThe hotel needs to have a more convenient system for their guests’ luggage. Not fun after a long day’s driving to haul one’s suitcase up to whichever floor one is staying on. A lift would be a good idea. Breakfast service was slow and a bit confused. It arrived cold and the waiter brought the toast (finally) after a couple of reminders. More than anything else, the reception of guests needs to be more warm and welcoming.
Clean, comfortable and well located. We rested well.

United Kingdom1) Room is essentially a cupboard, toilet within room is a cupboard within a cupboard, with Louvre doors on a bathroom !!! not good, smells etc. Rusty/Dirty marks around toilet sink area. Also, a be was in the room when I arrived and had to open window, although no indication of how to open it. Asked staff member who didn't know either, so I said I'd endeavor with it to try and open it. Took a faff around with it until it opened from the top. Additionally, shared shower room was untidy, towels strewn on floor from previous person who used it. So it wasn't cleaned after use. Then on morning of exit, shower would not work properly, with little pressure for hot water (maybe due to consumption of entire building in the morning),. So a partially cold shower. Then bar, a cold lager was purchased (Tennents) which was lacklustre. Have not had a pint in a few years and it wasn't nice, flat. I also helped some guests from other countries with their suitcases up two flights. There is no escalator. That's an issue for people who may require one. Smaller Guest Houses/B&Bs etc are more personal than the larger chain or corporate accommodation businesses, so I'd advise people to look for smaller, more personalable places first. Would I stay again ? Not really. It's a lovely old building etc but more effort needed.
Lovely big and old hotel type building. Pleasant area not far from Oban central

United StatesThe room was very hot, dirty towel was left in the floor when we checked in. Walls very thin and so it was noisy but expected for the time period it was built.
The outside was beautiful, good location. Breakfast was good.

United KingdomBreakfast a little late for anyone working. I was told 8am although I did see on the menu there was a reduced selection from 7.30. That would have suited me better.
Really comfortable bed, lovely staff, clean and newly decorated room, beautiful grounds. Really quiet at rear of hotel. Proper space to work in the room. Good choice and friendly service at breakfast.

South AfricaThe bathroom is very small. It did not show where to park and there is a lot of stairs to climb.
The view was spectacular. The bed was comfortable and dinner was tasty. The hotel is out of the busy Oban which makes it very relaxing.

United StatesRoom had a view from level two of an addition that was characterless and more like a motel room. Clean, very good, but none of the quirks of the old hotel. Some of the older surfaces [wall and ceiling appears] are showing their age, but still endearing.
Great location in quiet riverside view area outside busier Oban. The older hotel is charming and filled with character, like the dining spaces and 'resident lounge'. The breakfast and dinner were outstanding, and waitstaff exceptional. Quiet and clean room. We would stay again in older part of hotel.

United KingdomNothing to complain about.
It's a lovely hotel that's full of character. The bistro/restaurant is very good with a varied and tasty menu at reasonable prices. Nice clean room that had been modernised whilst keeping the charm of the original hotel, and which had one of the comfiest beds I've slept in for a while. Overall, good value for money.

Lovely family room which had only recently been totally refurbished to a high standard. Very attentive and friendly staff, and lovely generous breakfasts. Nice evening meals in the bar restaurant, complete with open log fire and a large selection of whisky. Lovely views out to the loch and mountains from the dining room and bar.

Very warm welcome, clean room with a comfortable bed, had a room upgrade to a corner room with 2 sets of windows. A traditional Highland hotel, with some rooms offering great views over the river. Menu was very nice, if limited choice.

United KingdomMaybe a wee bit more selection on the breakfast buffet, otherwise nothing else I can think of.
Great location and fantastic view of Loch Etive. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Hotel is lovely, I'd stayed there years ago and it's so much nicer than it used to be. Room was comfortable and clean. Really nice old Victorian style residents lounge for drinks at night. Breakfast was great, too. Good selection of choices for the cooked options. Restaurant looked nice, seemed to be very busy. Would definitely return.
