Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Everything was tip-top perfect. Location, facility, staff, food…. For a typical Japanese Ryokan experience, this place is the one to go.

United States of AmericaExcellent experience. Staff was very attentive and polite. Facility was also absolutely beautiful and the private onsen was extremely nice. I was little wary at first as you could see people walking nearby so I was worried they'd be able to see me exposed but they had curtains to help block as well as the height of the onsen was just perfect. Highly recommend Ranketsu for special occasions!

United States of AmericaWe only wish we could have stayed longer! We are still in the middle of our honeymoon at the time of writing this review, but this stay was such a highlight that we had to take the time to leave a positive review. Arashiyama is such an amazing destination but our stay at Ryotei Rangetsu elevated the experience to an entirely higher level. Thank you Ryotei Rangetsu for the unforgettable memories you've helped us create for our honeymoon!
From the moment we stepped into Ryotei Rangetsu and the staff greeted us warmly by name, until the moment we departed and they carried our bags to the front gate for us, we experienced nothing but the highest level of hospitality that went above and beyond our expectations. Yamaguchi-san and the rest of the staff took excellent care of us during our stay. They were polite, friendly, attentive, and cordial all without being overbearing or insincere. The room, private onsen, and public onsen were so comfortable, calming, and relaxing, and just what we needed after many days on the road. The inside of the rooms and building are clean, elegant, and peaceful. The views facing the river and mountains are beautiful and serene. The waters of the baths are invigorating and rejuvenating. It was well worth every penny to have such an environment that seemed perfectly crafted to help us rest up and recharge for the rest of our trip. The hotel breakfast was delicious and filling and they even accommodated my request for a vegetarian menu. When I told them that my wife and I were staying for our honeymoon trip, they surprised us with a lovely surprise of a special complementary dish in our dessert course! The location is ideally located just across the Togetsu bridge, and we were able to easily walk around and experience the beautiful sights of Arashiyama. We woke up at 5am to walk through the bamboo grove, located only about 5-10 minutes from the front gate, and were able to have a nice hour plus walk before coming back to enjoy our breakfast. We checked out of the hotel at 11am and the staff kindly stored our luggage for us while we continued to explore Arashiyama for the rest of the day. We had a lot of fun renting kimonos, walking around Arashiyama, and visiting the many cute shops. At the end of the day before we had to head to Kyoto, the staff kindly let me shower again in the public bath before we collected our luggage. Many thanks and we can't wait to return!!

United States of AmericaIt was perfect?
Rangetsu was top-notch. The hotels exquisite -- an oasis in the middle Arashiyama, which was very very crowded by day with tourists. The staff were amazing -- Professional, kind, always anticipating our needs from the minute we entered the lobby. Ami, our host, was excellent. Every kaiseki meal we had in our room, she was there and explained every nuance of the meal -- we were spoiled. The in-room onsen facing the Katsura River was a bonus luxury. Will definitely come back here.

United States of AmericaStunning views from the private onsen attached to the room courtyard, you can hear the river at night and see the cherry blossoms and mountains from the tub. A separate bathing tub inside the unit allows you to open the door fully and experience the same sights and sounds. There is a room service to clean, make the beds, restock the fridge, tea, towels, and provide clean yakatas. The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable, and I felt taken care of. The food service was undoubtedly a top highlight to my stay, aside from the serene environment.

CanadaThe service and attention to detail of the staff here is outstanding. They take care of you the moment you walk to the doors. The location is great for watching the tourists in Arashiyama near the bridge. The food is exceptional and very well presented. I would stay here again.

AustraliaIt was difficult to find in the dark. Google maps gave strange directions that made finding the front difficult as a non Japanese speaker.
Amazing breakfast, incredible staff. Directly across from the river, in Arashiyama area. You can reach the bamboo forest, the monkey park, and the temple very easily from here by walking. The property itself is beautiful, with amazing private onsen in certain rooms which are perfect for travellers with tattoos. Staff are very polite, held our luggage for us after our checkout so we could walk around and explore the area. The rooms are air conditioned and private, and as far as I can tell as an Australian, it offers a genuine traditional inn experience.

Our host (Kaho) was great, very courteous and informative, and they went out of their way to ensure our comfort. There was attention to detail and consideration for our needs (making meal allowances for my pregnant wife). We arrived rather early but they allocated us a parking spot, took our bags, and let us come back earlier. Onsen was well-kept and enjoyable. Great food - both dinner and breakfast the next morning.
