Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

CanadaThere was no view from our bedroom window, which faced a building.
Breakfast, snacks and drinks were available to everyone for free and made us feel at home. The place was very clean and the room was quite large for Kyoto. The personnel was friendly and attentive. The hotel was one subway station away from Kyoto Station which made traveling easy. We were also walking distance from restaurants and different places we wanted to visit.

AustraliaGorgeous boutique hotel. The rooms were cute and cosy and to a high standard. They had happy hour in the afternoons which was great after a day out. It was self serve beer, wine, coffee, tea and soft drink. They also had snacks too munch on. Breakfast was also different and lovely. Reception staff always helpful whether it was getting you a cab and advising the driver in Japanese on where you wanted to go or organising to have your luggage transported to your next destination for a fee. Hotel was located in a quiet street but also within walking distance to restaurants and shopping precinct.

United States of AmericaThe location was in the middle of Kyoto so it was easy to go to the Gion district, the Arayamashi Park/Bamboo Forest, and the Fushimi Inari Taisha. Made it easy to hop a train or bus. You had a choice of Japanese style or American style breakfast served by the staff. The staff was extremely nice and helpful.

United States of AmericaThe window was kind of windowless. So it made us feel a bit too enclosed. The AC didn't work properly and it was positioned such that the cold air blew right on our bed and our faces.
Location was great. It was in a quiet street. Felt a boutique vibe but it was very centrally located and we could walk to a lot of places.

United KingdomNothing - it was all really well set up
The General Kyoto was great - close to the tube if arriving via Kyoto station and then close to the main high street and bus routes with plenty of places for a quick breakfast before exploring. It was about twenty minutes walk to Gion and five to the food market. The Lounge for an end of day drink was a great bonus.

United KingdomThe window doesn't open, which I personally don't like, as the only air you get is recycled air via the a/c. It's likely a safety feature, but had to give one star less as I like outside air.
Spotlessly clean room and hotel, right in the heart of Kyoto, 5 mins walk to major shopping street and Nikishi market! It feels very much like a boutique hotel and very nicely designed. Unfortunately I injured my ankle the day before we checked in and we were desperately trying to find out if I could attend a clinic or hospital as the swelling was getting worse and we weren't sure if it was anything serious. The receptionist (Lee) went above and beyond to call various clinics at 1am in the morning that evening as it seems very difficult to get medical help on a Saturday night. It is near impossible to get seen quickly if you're a foreigner in Japan. Unless you are carried in by an ambulance!! Hospital staffing is very limited on the weekends and even in the private clinics, so finding any help let alone any clinics that would accept you is near impossible!! Lee was amazing, she called multiple clinics and the local hospitals, explaining the situation and translated for us. There wasn't much more that could be done that night but she persevered to help us by contacting any clinics for us that would see us the next available day. She even left a map with clinics indicated with the receptionist who was on shift after should I want to go to a clinic the next morning as well as where I could buy crutches if needed! Luckily, I was able to manage to walk for short periods the next day. The staff speak excellent English and I think Lee spoke at least 3 languages that we noticed! We were very impressed with their customer care, politeness and service!!! Highly recommended. It should be noted that like most hotels in Japan, sadly beds tend to be on the hard side.

AustraliaAs with all hotels now they offer a quilt to sleep under which is always too hot. Single sheets need to be offered in every room with the option of a light blanket. The snacks on offer in the lounge area were limited.
We did not eat the breakfast on offer. The room was small but compact with all the facilities we needed for our short stay. They did offer television in English (BBC, CNN) which was good.

ItalyNothing major. Two very minor things: the bathroom fan was always on and a bit noisy, and there’s no window to let in some fresh air.
The hotel is in a very strategic position, near the business part of the city but in a side Street, which is crucial to avoid noise and traffic. Room has everything and there is also a complementary bar service for guests. Breakfast is ok and staff super available and careful of our needs.
